Drake’s “How About Now” Springs a Leak

Out of thin air [and when we were missing him the most] just materialized a fresh, new Drizzy leak, entitled “How About Now”. (Thanks, Reddit). Four minutes long, the track candidly surrenders to archetypal, marshmallowy Drake anguish…but the same kind that inflames shared self-pity and guilty-pleasure playback.

Suspected to be a single off of the artist’s upcoming Views from the 6 EP, the song supplies us with a sleek, in-your-feelings OVO fix–with mellow, Boi-1da beat conception. And if a Jodeci sample alone couldn’t make you feel some type of way, Drake jumps on the beat for “My Heart Belongs to U”, the hit single from the sappy R&B group’s ’93 album, Diary of a Mad Band. Drifting on a pitched-out, falsetto version of the original slow jam, the singer slash rapper issues a spoken-word slam based on an ungracious woman from his past.

The intro: a disclosed voicemail from a salty girl…”Like that’s what I’m talking about though…like, you changed up; you don’t even link nobody anymore…you just dashing away like a taxi”. Whether or not the Toronto slang makes much sense, the clip makes a statement that sets the mood for Drizzy’s half-bitter, half-infatuated rumination.

As we’ve witnessed in almost every album up to NWTS, shady delusion proves a relentless force against the OVO rapper: “Always felt like my vision been bigger than the bigger picture/Crazy how you gotta wait until it’s dark out to see who really with you…”

Then, presumably, a reference to the girl in the voicemail:

“Remember I deleted all my other girls numbers out the phone for you?
Remember when you had to take the Bar exam? I drove in the snow for you…
Aw, you thought you had it all figured out back then, girl, how ’bout now?
You thought the little effort that you put in was enough, girl, how ’bout now?…”

Though there’s been no confirmation from Drake or OVO regarding the song’s existence on the new album, it’s by all means a detour into the soft Drizzy that a lot love [and a lot don’t]…
